Malawian President Lazarus Chakwera has fired his head of police and stopped delegating duties to Vice President Saulos Chilima

Malawian President Lazarus Chakwera has fired the head of police and its  reported that he has quit appointing obligations to Vice President Saulos Chilima on claims of getting cash from Business man Zuneth Sattar.

Chakwera declared his choice in the wake of getting a report from the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on examinations concerning businesman Zuneth Sattar who is blamed for giving pay-offs worth $150m (£123m) to public officials in return for getting government contracts.

Chakwera said a sum of 53 current and previous public officials got cash from Sattar between March 2021 and October 2021. There are likewise 31 people from the private sector and media who supposedly got cash from Sattar.

Chakwera said the officials incorporate those from Office of the President and Cabinet, Malawi Police Service, Office of the Vice President, State House, Reserve Bank of Malawi, ACB, Malawi Broadcasting Station and different services.

The president added that the department has found that among the 84 people blamed for getting cash from Sattar, there are 13 who have been widely examined to such an extent that the authority has presumed that they "behaved corruptly."

Talking on the move that he is making, Chakwera noticed that the constitution doesn't accommodate the suspension of the Vice President or his expulsion from office by the president.

"Everything I can manage for the time being, which is what I have chosen to do, is to keep from his office any designated obligations while trusting that the Bureau will validate its charges against him and to spread the word about its game-plan according to such," uncovered Chakwera.
