Another Turkish bank suspends Russian Mir cards

Private lender DenizBank suspended use of Russia’s Mir payment system while it reviewed new guidelines from the US, following similar measures from lender Isbank.

In total, two of Turkey’s largest banks have officially stopped using the Russian payment network. Currently, only VakifBank, Ziraat Bank and Halkbank are members of the Mir payment system in Turkey.

Earlier, the US announced it plans to increase pressure on Turkey over possible sanctions evasion in the country.

The US Treasury Department warned banks outside the US that entering into new or expanded agreements with the Mir payment system "would risk supporting Russia’s efforts to evade US sanctions."
