India Destroys 100mn Expired Covid Vaccine Doses

Serum Institute of India had to dump 100 million doses of its Covishield vaccine - which accounts for 90% of all doses administered in India - after they expired, due to low demand that forced production to be halted last December.(RT)

Covishield’s production was halted in December due to low demand, but the manufacturer went on to produce the local version of AstraZeneca's Vaxzevria jab. Despite beginning a booster drive in January, including free boosters in July and August - only 298mn have been given.

CEO Adar Poonawalla admitted Thursday that "the booster vaccines have no demand as people now seem fed up with Covid. Honestly, I'm also fed up. We all are."
