Nearly 50 Killed, 300 Injured in Chad Protests – Government

About 50 people were killed and nearly 300 injured in violent protests on Thursday in N’Djamena, the capital of the central African nation of Chad, Prime Minister Saleh Kebzabo said at a press conference.

The official said the incident was an armed insurrection, but some human rights groups were reported as claiming security forces assaulted some 1,500 unarmed civilians taking part in protests across the country.

The Russian Foreign Ministry is concerned about the unrest and expects the situation in the country to stabilize, but also urges Russian citizens to avoid trips to Chad that are not absolutely necessary.
