Airbus & Air France Rio-Paris Manslaughter Trial Begins

After more than a decade of fighting to bring the case to trial, families of the 228 victims of the 2009 Rio-Paris Air France flight will see the French carrier and aviation manufacturer Airbus face manslaughter charges from Monday.

Airbus knew about problems with the pitots, which measure speed, used on the A330-200 since 2002 but doing nothing to resolve them, while Air France is accused of not providing training to deal with problematic pitots.

The tragedy was the worst in Air France history as Flight 447 crashed in the Atlantic, claiming the lives of every passenger and crew member, with the aircraft and black box recorders not found for two years.
